The difference between XLPE insulation and PE insulation of Aerial Bundled Cable (ABC Cable)

Aerial Bundled Cables (ABC) are widely used in overhead power distribution systems. The insulation material plays a crucial role in their performance. 1.Thermal Properties

PE:
- Good moisture resistance but less resistant to chemical and UV degradation.
- More susceptible to electrical treeing over time.
4.Electrical Properties
XLPE:
- Lower dielectric losses, better insulation properties.
- Higher dielectric strength, suitable for medium-voltage applications.
PE:
- Adequate for low-voltage applications but has higher dielectric losses compared to XLPE.
5.Longevity & Durability
XLPE:
- Longer lifespan due to superior resistance to heat, oxidation, and environmental factors.
PE:
- Shorter lifespan, especially in harsh conditions.
6.Cost & Application
XLPE:
- More expensive but offers better performance for demanding applications.
- Preferred for medium-voltage ABC and harsh environments.
PE:
- Cheaper but used mainly in low-voltage ABC where thermal and mechanical stresses are lower.
